MOBILE APP TESTING CHECKLIST (iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows)

Use at most one action on the screen that is highlighted as the most likely for the user. (Example: in iOS a blue button represents the default or most likely action). To keep controls as unobtrusive as possible for instance by fading them out if they are not used for a while. Make it possible for users to go back to a previous screen for instance by adding a back or cancel button the main function of the app should be apparent immediately. It should speak for itself. If the app is stopped at an unexpected time, user data should be saved locally and available at start-up. Do not use standard buttons for other functions then that they are normally used for

iPhone/iPad App Testing Tips for Good Feedback Ratings

Before your product goes in front of customers, you naturally want to get it tested by the largest number of testers available. This is usually accomplished via alpha builds, closed-beta tests, etc. Developing and testing for the iPhone is a completely different experience altogether, and present these 2 issues to software developers. 1. Lack of testing devices internally. While some of us live in cities where seemingly everyone has an iPhone, the fact is most software testing teams are not fully equipped with iOS devices. To make matters worse, every year one or two new products arrive in the iOS family that require significant capital investments for the team. 2. Difficulty in getting testing devices externally before release. Unless your intended audience is the jail-broken segment, your software product is being developed for a highly controlled environment – iTunes App Store. Just getting your devices properly provisioned internally is difficult enough, getting you...

iOS Mobile Automation using Appium Automation tool for Native and Hybrid Application

iOS Mobile Automation using Appium This time I started with a new tool which I had heard about earlier but didn’t start working on it. Earlier I had worked for some time on UI Automation Library using Instruments tool for iOS automation. Appium  – an open source, cross-platform test automation tool which can be used for native, hybrid and mobile web apps. It requires : •         Mac OS X 10.7 or higher, 10.8.4 recommended •         XCode >= 4.6.3 It drives various native automation frameworks and provides an API based on Selenium’s WebDriver JSON wire protocol. It drives Apple’s UIAutomation library for iOS support. Appium can be useful for automation as : •         We can write tests with Selenium WebDriver API and language specific client libraries with any of the WebDriver compatible language say Java , Objective...

Continuous build Integration environment in software development...

Continuous Integration is now a common practice used in software development; Mainly used when multiple teams are working on the same code lines and contributing to code changes. This helps in making sure that after every code change the changes are valid, and are not breaking any part of the code. This is verified by a two step process. There are multiple benefits of this practice as it gives comfort to the configuration management team. But from a developers point of view it makes the whole process slow. After every check-in, a whole build is created and deployed with all Unit Tests successful. If the product is huge, which can take a 1-2 hours build process after the check-in, the next check-in is stopped until the first check-in build is completed successfully.  This is because no check-in should be made before a previous build is successfully completed. But, there are ways to handle such situations, as proposed by VSTS, to configure multiple Build Servers and pl...
